Terms of Service

1. Who is behind this

Gear Tracker, at soniccanvas.app, is built and operated by Ásgeir Þrastarson, based in Iceland — the guitarist behind the Sonic Canvas YouTube channel. It is a one-person operation. You can reach him at [email protected], and a person reads that inbox.

By using Gear Tracker you agree to these terms. If you buy the lifetime unlock, the purchase itself is additionally governed by Paddle's buyer terms (section 4).

2. What the service is

Gear Tracker is a ledger for musical equipment: what you bought, what you sold, what it cost, photos, serial numbers, maintenance reminders, rigs, and a printable insurance schedule.

• It works without an account. Used that way, everything you log is stored by your own browser and never sent to any server.
• A free account is optional and adds one thing: the same ledger on every device, synced through our servers.
• The free tier holds 12 items at once. Sold gear never counts against the cap, history is unlimited, each item takes up to 5 photos, and export always works — the cap limits adding new held items, never what you can see, edit, sell or take with you. Details on the pricing page.

3. The one purchase

• The lifetime unlock costs €29, paid once. It is not a subscription, there is no renewal, and nothing ever charges you again.
• It removes the 12-item cap on your account permanently and raises the photo-storage allowance. It applies to the account you are signed in as when you buy, on every device that account uses.
• It includes future features that don't carry their own recurring infrastructure cost. If some future feature genuinely costs money to run per user per month, it may be priced separately — the unlock will never be quietly converted into a subscription.
• "Lifetime" means the lifetime of the service. We intend that to be a very long time, and the local-first design (section 7) means your data outlives even the service. But one person cannot honestly promise forever, so we won't.

4. Payments — Paddle is the merchant of record

Orders are processed by our reseller and merchant of record, Paddle (paddle.com), who also handles payment-related enquiries, receipts, applicable VAT and sales taxes, and refunds. When you buy the unlock, your contract of sale is with Paddle; Paddle's Buyer Terms apply to the transaction, and these terms govern your use of the product itself. Card and payment details go to Paddle directly — they never touch our servers and we never see them.

5. Refunds

Covered fully in the refund policy. Summary: 30 days, no interrogation, refunded by Paddle to your original payment method, and your data is untouched by a refund.

6. Your content

• Everything you log — items, prices, notes, photos, receipts — is yours. We claim no ownership of it.
• If you use an account, you grant us only the licence needed to store your content and serve it back to you and your devices. That is the whole licence. Your content is never sold, never used for advertising, never mined for anything.
• You are responsible for having the right to upload the photos you upload.
• Figures in your ledger are your own entered numbers, not market valuations, and Gear Tracker does not provide valuations, financial advice or insurance advice.

7. Your data stays reachable

• Export always works, free tier included, cap or no cap. You can download your entire collection as a JSON file at any time from the Account page.
• A copy of your ledger lives in your own browser, so the app keeps working offline and your data is never held hostage by a server.
• Deleting your account genuinely deletes it — every item, every event, every photo in cloud storage, and the login itself. There is no soft-delete and no retention "for your convenience". See the privacy policy.

8. Acceptable use

Don't use Gear Tracker to break the law, and don't break Gear Tracker. That means, among other things: no unlawful content; no attempting to access other people's accounts or collections; no probing, overloading or attacking the service; no bypassing the app's upload limits or client-side processing to push oversized or unprocessed files at the API; no reselling access; one person per account. We may suspend or close accounts that do these things — with notice and a chance to export, except where the abuse itself makes that unreasonable.

9. Honest limitations

• This is a young product run by one person. It is provided "as is". We work to keep it reliable, and its local-first design means an outage doesn't take your ledger away — but we do not promise uninterrupted availability, and support is one human in one time zone.
• The insurance schedule is a documentation aid, not a guarantee. It gathers your photos, serials, receipts and declared values into a document an insurer can read. No promise is made that any particular insurer, in any country, will accept it, and it is not a substitute for your insurer's own requirements.
• Keep your own backups. Export is one tap and produces a file you control.
• To the fullest extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid for the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, or removes rights that consumer law in your country gives you regardless of what any terms say.

10. If the service ever winds down

If Gear Tracker ever has to shut, we will give as much notice as we reasonably can and keep export working through the notice period, so every user can take their complete ledger with them. Because a copy already lives in your browser and export is a standing feature, this is a real exit, not a theoretical one.

11. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the product grows. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email to account holders, with the effective date updated above. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it; if you don't, export your data and stop using the service — or delete the account, which is always available and always real.

12. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Iceland. If you are a consumer, you keep any protections the mandatory consumer law of your own country gives you, and nothing here takes those away.
